Funkle Ester is a funk/dicso band that was originally a break-away band from Gammaman - two out of three of the members of the now defunct Gammaman are in Funkle Ester. I think it's safe to say that the sounds are polar opposites. It all started when Bryan McLucas (the bass player) and myself were playing a show as Gammaman at the lovely (dive) Engine Room and Bobby (the lead singer) had to jump off stage to get some water. Bryan started to play a funk riff from the Stones' "Miss You" and of course I joined in. We grooved right along, having a good time (as good as it can get in the Engine Room). This sparked a little idea in Bryan's head that maybe a funk/disco band would be a cool idea. I said "let's do it" and the plan was in motion.
Funkle Ester
Of course I cannot go without mentioning the rest of Funkle Ester, all very accomplished musicians, and all provide a synergy that makes this band The Absolute Best 8-member afro-wearing Band in Athens. In alphabetical order:

Dave "cigar man" Bryant : Sax
Dave "Vitamin D" Daily: Trombone
Meredith "Lady M" Davey: Lead Vocals
Dale "the green hornet" Inglett: guitar, vocals
Andrew "biGGs" Liles: Drums
James "beckola" Sewell: Keys
Bryan "shorty" McLucas: Bass, vocals
Russ "don't call him Rusty" Sauve: Trumpet

Funkle Ester's has a web site, but it has been known not to be updated very often. Check it out yourself, and if you see that it is not being updated, send Bryan an email since he is the one responsible for the Funkle Ester site. Check it out -->
